In 2003, the Financial Literacy and Education Improvement Act established a commission of financial experts to create and distribute a nationwide financial literacy plan. Input is assured from the Treasury Secretary, the National Credit Union Administration, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the departments of Education, Agriculture, Defense, Health and Human Services, Housing and Development, Labor and Veterans Affairs, the Federal Trade Commission, the General Services Administration, the Small Business Administration, the Social Security Administration, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and the Office of Personnel Management.
Section 9702. Establishment of Financial Literacy and Education Commission.
The Financial Literacy and Education Improvement Act establishes the Literacy and Education Commission as its first mandate.
